ECR Event – Global Insights: Being a Whole Scholar and Navigating the (Higher) Ed Job Market as an International Scholar

Join us for a rich and reflective conversation featuring Dr. Milad Mohebali, Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership and Higher Education at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, and Dr. Andreana Pastena, Assistant Professor at Universitat de les Illes Balears. This session is part of the Global Insight Series, organized by the Early Career Researcher (ECR) Network of Research in International Students (RIS).

Drawing from their lived experiences and scholarly journeys, Drs. Mohebali and Pastena will engage in a heartfelt and critical dialogue about navigating the higher education job market as international scholars. Together, they will unpack the hidden curriculum of the job search process—naming the emotional labor, institutional expectations, tokenism, and pressures to conform that often accompany the pursuit of academic employment. This session will offer grounded strategies and relational insights for job searching, cultivating scholarly communities, negotiating visibility and authenticity, and staying rooted in integrity, care, and purpose—even when systems attempt to fragment you.
